Kevin Yuen, Linda Donoghue and Sophia Chesrow spent 30 hours observing caregivers at the New England Center for Children, a school for aggressive, high-risk children with autism. The teachers often wear protective padding clothing that is uncomfortable and bulky.

The students often physically attack their teachers and leave severe bite marks on their arms.

The designs of the prototype were made at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the OpenStyleLab. It took over 30 hours of testing to come up with them.

Yuen and his group designed the prototype out of Kevlar material, often used by the military.

The original prototype cost $150, but Yuen is working to lower the price so that the product is more accessible for disability caregivers around the country.
