Shirley Reine, 51, was found shot to death in her home in Falmouth, Massachusetts, on May 10, 2005. Shirley's killer was careful to not leave behind any clues, and neighbors say they didn't hear a thing.

When Shirley was 19, she began dating Melvin Reine and quickly fell for him, according to family.

Melvin Reine was a convicted arsonist, who was suspected, although never charged, in a number of other serious crimes.

Shirley and Melvin were married in 1999, after living together for decades.

Melvin Reine had two sons from a previous marriage -- Melvin Jr. (pictured) and Todd. Their mother, Wanda Medeiros, went missing in 1971.

Todd Reine (pictured) and Melvin Jr. filed a suit against their stepmother in 2003, saying their father was not mentally competent when he wrote his will and gave everything to Shirley. Reine v. Reine was set to go to trial on May 19, 2005.

Shirley's sister, Loretta Gilfoy, says she honors her sister's legacy by remembering the life they had together.

In 2002, Shirley's home was burglarized. In 2007, John Rams Jr., a Wareham resident with a lengthy criminal record, and an accomplice were convicted of burglarizing the Reine home. Another accomplice was granted immunity. Rams testified that he broke into the home as a favor to Todd. Though he pleaded not guilty, Todd was sentenced to four to five years in prison. He was released in 2011.

In 2014, Rams went on trial for the murder of Shirley. His vehement denial coupled with a lack of forensic evidence, according to Rams' lawyer, resulted in his acquittal.
