Akinwumi Adesina —
Nigeria's outgoing minister of agriculture and rural development was named Forbes' African of the Year in 2013. He has argued that nothing is more important to Africa's success than access to power.

Samura Kamara —
Sierra Leone's minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Samura Kamara, was formerly minister of finance and economic development. Under his tenure, Sierra Leone has registered robust economic growth, with rates consistently outpacing regional averages.

Cristina Duarte —
The only women in the race comes from Cape Verde. Cristina Duarte is currently minister of finance and planning and was previously vice-president and head of corporate & investment banking at Citibank in Angola.

Jaloul Ayed —
Since he left the Tunisian ministry of finance in December 2011, Jaloul Ayed has been actively promoting investment in Tunisia through public speaking. In June 2014, Ayed was selected to chair a national task-force aimed at formulating a new vision for Tunisia's African strategy.

Sufian Ahmed —
Sufian Ahmed has been the Ethiopian minister of finance and economic development since 2001.

Kordjé Bedoumra —
The father of three from Chad currently serves as the country's minister of finance and budget. He has spent 29 years at the AfDB and studied in both France and Canada.

Thomas Zondo Sakala —
The Zimbabwean is one of the bank's longest serving staff members with over 30 years of service. Most recently, Sakala was head of AfDB's operations department for country and regional programs and policies.

Birama Boubacar Sidibé —
The Malian is currently vice president of operations of the Islamic Development Bank, based in Saudi Arabia. Before taking up this post, Sidibe was managing director at Shelter Afrique -- a pan-African finance institution that exclusively focuses on housing.
