Family game night. Collect your supply of cards and board games and pick one or two to play for a family game night. We love Uno, Jenga, Nada! and Connect Four.

Make art. Collect paint, markers, paper, cardboard, fabric scraps, buttons, pipe cleaners and other supplies to make art together.

How about a dance party? Whether it's a kid-friendly dance class, disco party, swimming, fishing or another activity you like to do with like-minded friends, get together and have fun!

Share your day. In the "rose and thorn" game, everyone gets to say the rose, or good thing, about their day, and the thorn, or the thing they didn't like, about their day.

Take a walk. Take a hike, head to a playground or just walk around your neighborhood to get some fresh air and notice where you are.

Eat dinner together. Have a meal together as a family without any screens allowed. If dinner can't work, try a weekend breakfast.

Make like Laura Ingalls Wilder. Tell ghost stories or read tales by candlelight or firelight to the family. Even the teenagers might listen if you let them pick some of the books.

Bake together. Pick a recipe the entire family will like, don't worry about calories and let the flour go flying.

Worried about making mistakes? There are no mistakes in "Beautiful Oops!" author Barney Saltzberg's world. Any "mistake" can be turned into art.

Still not inspired artistically? Grab a kid's coloring book for the young ones and an adult coloring book for you.
