With no traditions in place for same-sex marriage, Lisa Carmichael and Meredith Miller proposed to each other at separate times in 2009. Miller gave Carmichael a more tradition ring, but because Miller doesn't care for rings, she got a smaller band with a solitaire matching Carmichael's dangling from a necklace.
