Danyeil Durrant weighed 363 pounds when a conversation with her doctor changed her life. She joined Weight Watchers in August 2012 and went on to lose 150 pounds. Durrant has a Facebook page, "Get Down With Dani," to inspire others and to keep herself accountable for achieving her weight loss goals.

Kerry Hoffman was motivated to lose about 150 pounds to walk his young daughter down the wedding aisle someday. The day after his "aha" moment -- December 28, 2011 -- Hoffman joined a new gym near his house. In time, he went from not knowing how to use a treadmill to winning a triathlon.

Despite having congenital heart disease, Heather Kern didn't give up on her weight-loss journey. Nearly three years and more than 100 pounds later, she is working on her personal training certification and her heart "is the strongest it has been in seven years."

Heavy metal singer Nina Osegueda was terribly hurt when her college boyfriend suggested she lose weight. She switched to a low-carb, high-protein diet, took up belly dancing and dropped 60 pounds. Twelve years later, she has kept off the weight and is happily married to another man.

In 2011, Robert and Jessica Foster used to weigh 327 pounds and 287 pounds, respectively. They've shed more than 280 pounds between them by focusing on getting healthy for their daughters. They spend lots of time outdoors and cook from scratch.

Cady Stanton has gradually lost more than 100 pounds since 2005 by cutting out sugar and exercising regularly. Instead of eating ice cream to cope with her stress, she sets aside time to meditate. "I'd like to say there was some amazing, exciting news on the other end of weight loss. But the real shift is that my weight isn't the first thing on my mind every day -- my life is."

Jen Corn's family offered to pay for weight-loss surgery, but she decided to change her lifestyle on her own. She joined Weight Watchers and has lost more than 150 pounds since 2011. She walks five miles a day and is signed up to walk her first half-marathon this year.

Brian Flemming is at 235 pounds -- a total of 390 pounds lost -- and recently finished his first half-marathon. He still has about 30 pounds of excess skin, which he hopes to have removed someday. (iReport / Brian Flemming)

At her heaviest, Torrie Creamer weighed 322 pounds. The mother of three joined a boot camp program for women and lost 145 pounds. It's been four years, and she's going strong.

Kathleen Riser lost more than 200 pounds and proved that middle-aged women can indeed lose weight. She is proud that despite a stressful year, she didn't put on any weight in 2014. "Normally, I would have turned to food for comfort and to relieve the stress of caring for my dying father. Not now. I conquered that fear and have replaced stress eating with workouts."
