More than 2,400 people have been infected by the virus, according to the World Health Organization, and it has killed more than half.

AUGUST 21 - JEMBER, INDONESIA: Elaborate costumes are on display during the children's version of the 13th Jember Fashion Carnival. The theme this year is "Triangle, Dynamic in Harmony" and consists of 10 processions. The street carnival is claimed to be one of the biggest in the world and comprises of more than 850 performers parading along a 3.6km road.

AUGUST 19 - TAIPEI, TAIWAN: An actress rehearses a scene from the Chinese opera "A Dream of Red Mansions" at the National Theater on August 18. The piece, written by author Cao Xueqin in the second half of the 18th century, is known as one of the greatest achievements in Chinese literature. Its opera adaptation will be performed from 19 - 24 August in the city.

AUGUST 12 - GUANGZHOU, CHINA: Triplet panda cubs rest in an incubator at the Chimelong Safari Park. The trio, born on July 29 but whose arrival was announced today, are thought to be the only living panda triplets in the world. The park's manager, Dong Guixin, told China Daily that the cubs are with their mother and are being cared for by a team of feeders.

AUGUST 10 - MADRID, SPAIN: A girl plays with a dog as a "supermoon" rises on August 10. The phenomenon occurs when the moon becomes full on the same day as its perigee -- the point in the moon's orbit when it is closest to Earth. This is the second one to appear in the current season.

AUGUST 8 - BRISTOL, ENGLAND: Hot air balloons depart from Aston Court on the first full day of the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta. Now in its 36th year, the four-day fiesta is Europe's largest annual hot air balloon event and attracts more than 100 hot air balloons and 500,000 visitors.

AUGUST 5 - SRIRACHA, THAILAND: Surrogate mother Pattaramon Chanbua plays with her baby, Gammy -- one of twins she was carrying for an Australian couple. The boy was born with Down Syndrome and Chanbua claims he was abandoned by the couple because of his condition.
