Outsider Sarah Manning is the main character at the heart of "Orphan Black." She's how we're introduced to the world of clones who look just like her, and we follow her journey to the center of the mystery. Her daughter, Kira (Skyler Wexler, not pictured), is the only child to ever be born to a clone. Sarah's foster brother Felix (Jordan Gavaris, right) quickly becomes the glue keeping the clone sisters, including Alison Hendrix and Cosima Niehaus, together.

Alison Hendrix is the quintessential soccer mom and perfect housewife, complete with her own craft room and a lead part in the community theater play -- except when she's drinking too much wine, popping pills or becoming paranoid about those closest to her. Understandably, things have been tense with her husband, Donnie (Kristian Bruun, left).

Everyone's favorite scientist, Cosima Niehaus, is brilliant, geeky and has an open mind when it comes to using a certain herbal remedy. She has found love with fellow scientist Delphine (Evelyne Brochu, left), but can't completely trust her.

Introduced at the end of Season 1, powerful corporate pro-clone Rachel Duncan has been raised with complete awareness of who she is. She works with Dr. Aldous Leekie (Matt Frewer, right), who holds secrets about the clones. Paul Dierden (Dylan Bruce) is being blackmailed by Leekie into monitoring Sarah, but he's also falling for her.

One of Season 1's fan-favorite characters, Helena thought she was the original clone. She also had a fondness for sugar and a habit of practicing extreme (and painful) fundamentalism.

We didn't get to find out much about Katja in season one, but her health issues struck fear in all of the other clones.

We barely knew her before detective Beth Childs committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. Her death is the catalyst for the entire series. By assuming Beth's identity, Sarah learns her backstory -- and why she didn't see any other way out.

Tatiana Maslany has the difficult task of playing up to three clones in a single scene. So how does she do it? The show creators wanted the clones to be able to interact closely, like this tense scene between Rachel and Sarah. Maslany uses a double, Xs taped on the floor and walls, and even tennis balls with faces drawn on them.
