Kite rider —
Alex Caizergues broke the World Sailing Speed Kitesurfing record over 500 meters, reaching an average speed of 56.62 knots.

Wave machine —
In 2010, the Frenchman became the first man to break through the 100 kph barrier.

Winds of change —
The wind speeds can often reach up to 130km at Salin de Giraud in Camargue -- making it the ideal place for breaking records.

Water world —
Since taking up kitesurfing 12 years ago, Caizergues has excelled by winning three world titles and two national championships.

Mistral matters —
He was helped by the Mistral -- a fierce cold wind which blows toward the Mediterranean Sea from the uplands in southern France.

End of an adventure —
The sun sets on the arena following Caizergues' record. He hopes to get back on the water to break more records before too long.
