
Fires burn out of control —
Soon after Super Typhoon Haiyan hit Tacloban, desperate shop owners tried to extinguish fires that broke out in buildings with small buckets of water, storm chaser James Reynolds said.

Storm hits Tacloban hotel —
Reynolds and two colleagues, Mark Thomas and Josh Morgerman, went to Tacloban to record the impact of Super Typhoon Haiyan which hit the city on Friday, November 8, 2013.

Storm chaser injured by sheet metal —
While trying to rescue people trapped in their hotel, a piece of sheet metal inflicted a deep gash in Mark Thomas' right leg. It was hastily bandaged but the team feared it would soon become infected by dirty floodwater.

Body bags aboard flight —
The team caught a flight from Tacloban to Cebu after trying to find a way out of the devastaated city. Reynolds said the atmosphere aboard the C-310 was somber as survivors sat on the ground alongside four body bags.

C-310 flight to Cebu —
The storm chasers only managed to board the flight after catching a helicopter from a military staging post to Tacloban airport. The roads had been blocked by debris, turning the airport from a short drive away into a potential seven-hour trek.

Safe and away from Tacloban —
Relieved storm chasers Mark Thomas and Josh Morgerman near the C-310 they caught out of Tacloban after hearing a tip-off about military flights out of the typhoon-hit Filipino city.
