After nine seasons as Capt. Merrill Stubing -- which followed seven seasons as Murray Slaughter on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" -- Gavin MacLeod became a spokesperson for Princess Cruises. He's also enjoyed guest roles on several TV shows, including "Murder, She Wrote," "Oz" and "The King of Queens."

Lauren Tewes, who played cruise director Julie McCoy, fought drug addiction after leaving the show in 1984. After overcoming her problems, she had guest roles on several shows, including "Who's the Boss" and the 2000 version of "The Fugitive." More recently, she's done voice-overs and stage work.

Fred Grandy, who played purser Burl "Gopher" Smith, turned to politics in 1986 and was elected to Congress from Iowa. He served four terms, departing the House in 1995 after losing Iowa's 1994 gubernatorial race. Since then, he's been president of Goodwill Industries, a radio personality and a fellow at a Washington-based think tank.

TV veteran Bernie Kopell -- who had notable roles on "Get Smart," "That Girl," "Bewitched" and "When Things Were Rotten" -- played Dr. Adam Bricker, the ship's doctor. After "The Love Boat," Kopell had guest roles in such series as "Beverly Hills, 90210," "Scrubs" and "Arrested Development."

Ted Lange, who played ship's bartender Isaac Washington, has continued acting -- he was in "227," "The King of Queens" and "Psych." But he has been more active behind the camera as a director and writer. Among his credits: episodes of "Moesha" and "Dharma & Greg."

Child actor Jill Whelan joined "The Love Boat" as Capt. Stubing's long-lost daughter, Vicki. While still on the show, she had a role in "Airplane!" and was a spokesperon for Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign. Later, she alternated between acting -- she was in "The Young and the Restless" and some stage productions -- and behind-the-scenes work, such as a TV producer. The TV veteran Ted McGinley -- who's been singled out by the website Jump the Shark for his appearances on fading shows -- was on "The Love Boat" for its last two seasons as photographer Ace Evans. He later starred in "Married ... With Children," "Sports Night," "The West Wing" and "Hope & Faith." He played a swinger in the most recent season of "Mad Men," which set tongues wagging.

Marion Ross may be best known as Mrs. Cunningham on "Happy Days," but she joined "Love Boat" during its waning days as Capt. Stubing's love interest, Emily Heywood, and married him at the end of the show's run. She played Drew Carey's mother on "The Drew Carey Show" and also had roles in "Brothers & Sisters," "Nurse Jackie" and "Grey's Anatomy." A performing arts center in her native Minnesota was named for her in 2008.

Years before "Lois & Clark" and "Desperate Housewives," Teri Hatcher played Amy, a singing and dancing Love Boat Mermaid, on "The Love Boat." Besides those post-"Love Boat" credits, Hatcher also starred on a classic episode of "Seinfeld" ("Oh, by the way, they're real -- and they're spectacular") and provided voice characterizations to "Coraline" and "Planes."

Charo, a frequent "Love Boat" guest star as entertainer April Lopez, has had a pair of hit dance singles in recent years ("Espana Cani" and "Sexy Sexy") and continues acting, most recently on "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23."
