Trappe took off from Caribou, Maine, on Thursday morning, September 12, to begin a 2,500 mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

Just like in the Disney movie "Up," Trappe is using 370 giant balloons filled with helium. He holds on to one of the many balloons that will be used to carry him across the Atlantic.

Trappe reaches incredible heights in his balloon cluster. It's not the first time he has crossed open seas. In May 2010 he became the first man to fly over the English Channel in a cluster balloon system. In 2011 he became the first person to fly over the Alps.

This latest challenge could take him up to six days to complete. Floating at altitudes between 18,000 to 25,000 feet, he will be relying on a team of meteorologists to guide and advise him on weather fronts.
