McCarty took his family to the Silver Dollar City amusement park last summer, but couldn't ride the PowderKeg roller coaster because of his weight.

McCarty used to eat mainly hamburgers, pizza and fried foods. His diet has since changed dramatically. He and his family are going to run a 5K race together in December.

McCarty has lost 125 pounds. He says he wants to try activities he couldn't do before, such as zip-lining and kayaking. Housework has gotten easier, too: "Before, if I tried to mow the yard, my back would be killing me," he said. "Now, it's a piece of cake."
