A self-taught programmer, Chumo spent many hours learning about coding at Nairobi's iHub, a co-working space that's become the epicenter of Kenya's burgeoning tech scene.

Chumo says a pilot program is already in place to help young techies come together and improve their programming skills.

Hacker School —
Chumo's idea for the Nairobi school came after she was denied a visa to travel to the United States to attend New York's Hacker School. "We were sad and frustrated when her visa was denied, and did all we could to get it approved to no avail," says Hacker School's Nick Bergson-Shilcock.
