Lauren Shorter of Anderson, South Carolina, has bad allergies during the spring. "My eyes become so irritated and red sometimes they almost swell shut at times," she says. "I love being outside, but after a full day of outdoor activities I am pretty miserable by that night. I have never prayed for rain as much as I do when everything is covered in yellow."

David Hopper had just washed and waxed his truck when the pollen arrived to add a nice yellow sheen. "I realize that pollination is a necessary thing for plants, flowers, grasses, weeds and trees, but I very much dislike the itchy eyes, sinus headaches (and) stuffy, runny nose that result," the McDonough, Georgia, resident says. "That yellow coating is just an ugly reminder to restock the medicine cabinet."
