
Supreme court has chance to revisist same-sex marriage appeals —
The Supreme Court will have its first chance to revisit a pending series of appeals over the divisive issue of same-sex marriage, after it took no action Friday. Three separate issues on same-sex marriage confront the justices, including federal benefits, state benefits and state referendums. The court may or may not announce actions on Monday, but CNN will continue to cover any developments. Here's a look at some of the other stories CNN plans to cover this week.

Pope Benedict joins Twitter —
Pope Benedict XVI will join the digital age with his own Twitter account Monday. A Vatican official told CNN the pope will be composing tweets for the new account himself. For his first tweet , the pope will press the button to send it, but after that others will send tweets on his behalf. The Vatican news site has had a Twitter account since June.

Grammy nominations —
Nominations for the 55th Grammy awards will be announced Wednesday at a concert in Nashville. Ne-Yo is slated to hit the stage at the announcement concert.

New laws start to take effect —
Laws recognizing same-sex marriage and legalizing marijuana use were passed in several states last month. On Thursday, same-sex marriage laws and laws permitting possession of small amounts of marijuana by people over age 21 will take effect in Washington state. Thursday is also the deadline for certification of a Colorado ballot initiative legalizing marijuana. Once certified, the initiative will become law upon the governor's signature on Amendment 64.

Fiscal cliff hearing —
The U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee will hold a hearing on the potential impact of the fiscal cliff. Lawmakers must come up with a solution to avoid the package of automatic tax increases and spending cuts that would take effect January 1.

November jobs report —
The Department of Labor will release its monthly jobs report on Friday. Analysts hope that data released will give lawmakers more incentive to make a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff.
