New rural housing promotes prosperity —
A new initiative in Malaysia is giving rural populations hope of a better life with the creation of a model "smart village." The idea is to create a largely self-sufficient community which also sources energy and food in a sustainable manner.

Houses are clean and spacious as well as energy efficient, according to developers who are made of public and private bodies.

Kitchens provide ample space for residents to prepare food that has been grown on site.

There are 100 homes on the site northeast of the capital Kuala Lumpur. Residents also have access to educational, training and recreational facilities.
