Native dancing —
Craig Smith from Orange County, California, took this photo of an enthusiastic dancer as he drove from the Black Sea on Georgia's western coast towards the country's interior. Despite only being in Georgia for one day he says he found the people and their culture to be "warm and friendly."

Beach romance —
This romantic sculpture caught the attention of Cindy Dam as she visited the waterfront of Batumi, western Georgia, in early 2012. "Prior to the trip, almost everyone warned me about the danger (though of course they had never visited the region) and that the people were strange," she says "Thus I was very surprised it was nothing like it."

Mountain cross —
This photo of a cross fountain high above the mountains near Georgia's border with Russia was taken by Amanda Haase. The graduate student from Washington D.C. was visiting the country in 2011 as part of a research project on relations between the two countries. "The rainy day made the clouds low and gave some really interesting light to the fountain," she says.

Batumi sunset —
Carlos Minuesa of Valencia, Spain, captured this image of the Alphabet Tower in Batumi whilst working for engineering firm CMD Ingenerios in 2010. The structure has become part of a project to extend the pier by 1 kilometer, offering the cities residents a new place in which to relax and explore.

Religious outpost —
"If you are in the Eastern Black Sea area, visit Georgia!" says iReporter, Craig Smith. He snapped this image of a picturesque rural church when he stopped off in the country as part of a Black Sea cruise in 2010.

Traditional Tbilisi —
Tara Isabella Burton captured this picture of the "art nouveau architecture" which adorns the Sololaki district of Old Tbilisi -- a nineteenth-century quarter famed for its literary pedigree. "The government's eagerness to promote Tbilisi as a 'modern' European capital is leaving some worried that the city's history is getting left behind in the struggle," she says.

Right on cue —
Cindy Dam from Prague visited Georgia earlier this year as part of her own personal travel project to visit every country in Europe. This image captures young men lazing around and playing pool on a balmy day in the western port city of Batumi.

Caucusus mountain peaks —
This photo was taken in the mountainous Mtskheta region, which lies only about 20 kilometers from Tbilisi, by iReporter Amanda Haase. "I believe I took the photo out a window of the Jvari Monastary," which is perched atop a mountain there, she says. "The view is towards the city and the river in the photo is the joining of the Aragvi and Kura rivers."

On the waterfront —
Batumi's waterfront was a well known tourist attraction in the 19th century, says Carlos Minuesa, who spent time in the city working for CMD Ingenerios between 2010 and 2011. "Citizens in a modern city need also green areas and public spaces," he adds, hence the development of vibrant modern attractions such as the pictured fountains and paved seafront area.
