We're learning more from investigators about the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of today's show host, Savannah Guthrie. She's been missing for five days now and was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, Saturday night.
Sheriff Chris Nanos
00:00:23
To be clear, we have nobody of interest or any suspects that you would consider a prime suspect. We're just not there.

'In an interview with CNN, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos says he believes Nancy Guthrie was removed from her home against her will. Today, the sheriff says there was blood found on Nancy's porch and that it belongs to her. He also said there was no indication of forced entry into her home. The sheriff says investigators questioned an Uber driver who took Nancy to her daughter's house for a family dinner the night before her disappearance. The sheriff says she was cooperative and helpful and isn't under suspicion. The FBI is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie's recovery and their arrest or conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. An FBI special agent says an apparent ransom note sent to local and national media outlets is under investigation, but says there's no additional demands beyond the note, no confirmation that she's being held, or follow-up communication to confirm that she is still alive. The agent says the note included two deadlines. The first was 5 p.m. today and the second is next Monday.

More news coming up, including changes that impact job protections for thousands of federal workers.
Sen. John Thune
00:01:40
As of right now, we aren't anywhere close to having any sort of agreement that would enable us to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

'That's Senate Republican Leader John Thune on the Senate floor today. Remember, DHS funding expires next Friday because Congress passed a spending package that only funded the department for two weeks. Some Democrats are not open to backing another short-term DHS-funding bill, raising odds for an agency shutdown. Democrats are demanding several ICE reforms, some of which Republicans have already rejected, like unmasking federal agents and requiring judicial warrants. However, Thune signaled that there's room to negotiate on some items, with the White House saying the Trump administration is willing to consider some demands.

'The Trump administration issued a rule to reclassify 50,000 federal workers, making them easier to fire. The controversial rule is the latest effort to weaken the federal workforce. It allows agencies to shift the federal employees involved in policy into at-will positions, which don't have the same job protections that other career workers have. The Trump administration says the new category, quote, will allow agencies to quickly remove employees from critical positions who engage in misconduct, perform poorly, or obstruct the democratic process by intentionally subverting presidential directives.

Now to the latest news involving Russia. President Donald Trump's foreign envoy, Steve Witkoff, says talks intended to end the war in Ukraine concluded with an agreement to reopen a military communication channel between the U.S. and Russia that cut off days before Russian troops invaded Ukraine almost four years ago. But more work remains on a peace deal. So far, no resolution to the conflict appears at hand. Meanwhile, the last remaining nuclear treaty between the US and Russia expired today. It sparked fears of a renewed nuclear arms race between the two biggest nuclear superpowers for the first time in decades. Trump says that the U.S. should negotiate a, quote, "new, improved, and modernized" nuclear treaty with Russia, instead of agreeing to extend the previous one.

Coming up, a key pillar of Trump's effort to lower drug prices is set to go live. Details when we come back.

'The Trump administration's direct-to-consumer drug platform is expected to launch today. Tammy Luhby explains.
Ifeoma Dike
00:03:57
Yes, Ifeoma. TrumpRx will serve as a clearinghouse that connects patients with drug makers selling certain medications, including blockbuster obesity drugs Zepbound and Wegovy, at a discount. But, patients have to forgo insurance and pay cash. The site is a key pillar of the president's efforts to lower prescription drug costs, one of Americans' biggest headaches. However, it remains to be seen whether Trump Rx will actually result in lower costs. Certain drugs, particularly the obesity medications, could be more affordable through the site. But many consumers could ultimately pay less if they go through their insurance.
