Sources tell CNN the U.S. Has rescued a service member from a fighter jet shot down over Iran. Status of a second crew member was not immediately clear. CNN's Jeremy Diamond is in Tel Aviv.

So unclear what information the U.S. Has at this stage about that second airman, whether or not he is alive. But it does appear that those search and rescue efforts have still been ongoing. Israel, for its part, did not directly participate in the search and rescue efforts, I'm told. But it has provided intelligence to the United States to try and assist with the effort. Israel also postponed some of its strikes in Iran today in order not to interfere with those search rescue efforts, but we did see that in the capital of Tehran, the Israeli military did carry out several heavy strikes in that area earlier today. The Iranian state media, for its part, is reporting that it is offering a reward to its citizens should anyone be able to recover or capture this second airman, whose status is still unknown. So the Iranians also clearly very interested in getting a hold of that airman and if Indeed they did. That would take the situation from bad to worse, representing a very significant escalation of this conflict.

'President Donald Trump sent his annual budget request to Congress, outlining the White House's spending priorities. They want roughly $1.5 trillion for defense, a 40% increase from last year, which would boost military spending to its highest point in modern history amid the war in Iran. The proposal for the next fiscal year aims to bolster munitions and build out the U.S. Naval fleet. While starting construction on Trump's planned Golden Dome missile defense system, among other things, The White House is also looking to make deep cuts. One of them is to the tune of $73 billion, a 10% cut in non-defense spending that would primarily affect housing, social services, healthcare, and other domestic programs that the administration has called woke.

Now to a development first reported by CNN. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was taken to the hospital after becoming ill at a Federalist Society dinner in Philadelphia on March 20th. That's according to people who know about the incident, which hadn't been previously reported. The justice was evaluated and administered fluids for dehydration. Since then, Alito has attended oral arguments and appeared healthy. He just turned 76 on Wednesday and has served as a justice for 20 years. Alito had refused to answer questions about his possible retirement. While his close friends tell CNN he has contemplated it, no decision seems imminent. NASA released stunning first images of Earth taken by astronauts on the Artemis 2 mission. You can head to CNN.com to take a look. Four astronauts are officially on their way to journey around the moon that'll take them farther from Earth than any humans have traveled before. They're expected to spend about eight more days in space. CNN's Ed Lavandera is at Johnson Space Center in Texas with an update.

So there's a lot of preparation work that needs to be done. They're in the process of going to be doing various tests of their deep space communication system. And remember, all of this is a test mission. So all of these systems and every little aspect of this space capsule needs to tested and put through trials to make sure that future missions can rely on this Orion capsule properly in missions in the years ahead. So that's part of what they're doing. We should be getting even more stunning images at some point, I think today.

Coming up, if you think gas prices are high in the U.S., one city has the nation beat.

'Can you guess the city with the highest gas prices in the world? Hong Kong, where some are paying US$15.60 per gallon, according to GlobalPetrolPrices.com. But the city held the top spot even prior to the war with Iran. A small portion of people in Hong Kong own cars, according to data calculated from Hong Kong's transport department. But economists say sky-high gas prices could add to inflation and raise logistics costs, which will eventually ripple through other sectors. In recent days, local media have reported that more car owners are opting to refuel in mainland China, where gas can be as low as one third of the cost in Hong Kong.
