And it was because of that path. That he had laid, because of his courage, his audacity, that two decades later, a young black senator from Chicago's South Side would even be taken seriously as a candidate for the presidential nomination.

'It's been nearly a week since the U.S. And Israel launched strikes on Iran, and there's no sign of an end to the conflict. The White House says President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth was expected to meet Friday with defense contractors to talk about making more weapons. More than 1,300 people have been killed in the war, according to Lebanese and Iranian state media, as strikes from the U-S and Israel continue. A refugee council estimates close to half a million people are likely displaced in Lebanon. And a refugee agency says a humanitarian crisis is unfolding across the Middle East as Iran retaliates. Meanwhile, U.S. State Department officials say several US charter flights have brought home thousands of Americans with more flights to come. Sources tell CNN Russia is giving Iran intelligence on US Military targets. One of those sources says much of the intelligence Russia has shared with Iran has been imagery from Moscow's overhead satellites. It's not clear what Russia is getting in return. CNN has asked the Kremlin and the Russian embassy in Washington for comment.

Three people familiar with the matter say the U.s. Also has intel suggesting that China may be preparing to give Iran financial assistance, spare parts, and missile components. CNN has the Chinese embassy in Washington for comment The US-Israeli war with Iran rippled through markets this week.

Oil prices hit their highest level since September 2023 at $90.90 per barrel, its biggest gain in a day since May 2020. And a weak jobs report is also adding to market anxiety. The U.S. Economy lost 92,000 jobs in February, and the unemployment rate rose to 4.4%, according to the latest Labor Department data.

Former University of Michigan football coach Sharon Moore reached a plea deal to resolve a home invasion case. Moore was fired in December after two seasons for having an inappropriate relationship with his executive assistant. He was charged after authorities say Moore confronted the woman with whom he had been having an affair and blamed her for his dismissal, even threatening to kill himself with butter knives in her apartment. The deal was struck on the same day that a judge planned to hear a challenge to Moore's arrest in December on three charges, including felony home invasion. Those charges were dropped in exchange for Moore pleading no contest to misdemeanor trespassing and misdemyanor malicious use of a telecom device. Moore didn't respond to a reporter asking him for comment. Sentencing is scheduled for April 14th on charges that have a potential maximum of six months and 30 days in prison.
