
Qatar is already a lucrative sponsor of British horse racing, and is expanding its investment with a multimillion-dollar deal lasting until 2024.

The oil-rich nation has increased its horse racing sponsorship in recent years. In 2008 Qatar became the sponsor of Europe's richest race -- the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, held every October at Paris' Longchamp racecourse.

Qatar's most notable sporting involvement to date has been winning the rights to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Qatar boasts other football-related involvements such as its sponsorship of Barcelona, with a shirt deal worth tens of millions of dollars.

Qatari Nasser Al-Khelaifi (pictured) is the president of French football champion Paris St. Germain. The Qatar Investment Authority purchased the Ligue 1 club in 2011.
