Hey, from CNN, I'm Ifeoma Dike with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, January 20th.
President Donald Trump

We inherited a mess, and we've made it a beautiful, beautiful picture.

That's President Donald Trump summing up his first year back in office. He started off a lengthy White House briefing blaming former President Joe Biden for a list of topics, while taking a victory lap over his own accomplishments, including the economy.
President Donald Trump
00:00:27
If you look at prices from a year or a year and a half ago, you look at the Biden prices, they were way up through the sky. And, you know, they use the word affordability. They just say affordability and they don't talk about it. They created the affordability problem and we are solving it.

Trump also defended his immigration crackdown in Minnesota. He had a stack of papers that featured mugshots of people who he said were undocumented migrants who had been arrested. We'll cover Minnesota a little later in the episode, as well as what Trump said about his bid to acquire Greenland. This comes as the president is expected to travel to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum this week.

A major winter storm is expected to pack a punch this week. CNN's Brandon Miller is tracking the forecast.

'That's right, Ifeoma. That's because the coldest air of the season will sweep down from Arctic Canada on Friday and set the stage for this multi-day winter weather impact for much of the eastern half of the U.S. By the end of this work week, an intensifying storm over the Southern Plains will pull moisture from the Gulf and spread over that bitterly cold air. And that's going to lead to snow and ice spreading over 1,000 miles from Texas to the Carolinas over the weekend. And the forecast models are painting a concerning picture right now of a crippling ice storm over the South that could knock out power to millions and make travel impossible.

That's another topic President Trump weighed in on today while speaking to reporters at the White House. He's threatened to impose tariffs on eight European allies over Greenland if a deal isn't reached that ends with the U.S. Controlling the Danish territory. When asked, what does his plan be if the Supreme Court rules against his terrorist strategy, here's what the president said.
President Donald Trump
00:02:22
You know, take a look at the word license, take a look other things. I mean, we have other alternatives, but what we're doing now is the best, the strongest, the fastest, the easiest, the least complicated.

Thousands of Greenlanders protested over the weekend against a possible takeover. But today, Trump suggested that Greenlander's would be on board once he speaks to them. Meanwhile, Trump's clash with European leaders over Greenland is sparking fears on Wall Street. U.S. Stocks ended the day in the red with the Dow falling more than 850 points.

The Justice Department has subpoenaed at least five state and local officials in Minnesota. They include Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Governor Tim Walz, State Attorney General Keith Ellison, and St. Paul Mayor Kali Herr. This comes after the state and the Twin Cities filed suit against the Trump administration earlier this month, seeking a court order to stop the immigration crackdown. Sources say the DOJ is investigating whether state and local leaders obstructed federal immigration enforcement efforts. Meantime, US Attorney General Pam Bondi made an unannounced trip to Minneapolis today. She and other top DOJ officials have accused state and global leaders of fueling protests. Greg Bovino, the top border patrol official leading the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, said this today.

00:03:37
'The facts are that federal agents are arresting murderers, rapists, child predators, cartel-connected criminals and other individuals who pose a real danger to the people of Minneapolis.

Following the subpoenas, Mayor Fry said everyone should be afraid when the federal government uses its power to, quote, intimidate local leaders for doing their jobs. And Mayor Kaohly said she'll, quote stand firm in my commitment to protect our residents, neighbors and community.

Coming up, the latest gun rights dispute in the High Court.
Ifeoma Dike
00:04:14
'The Supreme Court's conservative majority seemed poised to strike down a gun control law in Hawaii. The law bars people from carrying guns onto private property without the property owner's explicit approval. People with concealed carry permits in Hawaii, as well as a gun-control-rights group, says the law is unconstitutional, alleging it makes it effectively impossible to carry a gun in public. Conservative justices also appeared skeptical. Justice Samuel Alito said Hawaii's defense of the law was quote. Relegating the Second Amendment to second-class status.
