That's the ex boyfriend of Sarah Beckstrom, the National Guard member who died as a result of a shooting near the White House the day before Thanksgiving. Officials say another guard member, Andrew Wolf, is still in critical condition. They say the suspect, an Afghan national who previously worked with the CIA, will face a murder charge. CNN's Brian Todd is in Washington, D.C. with more.

We did hear before from Janine Piro and other officials that Rahmanullah Lakanwal lived in Bellingham, Washington with his wife and they believe five children that he drove across the country with the intent to come here and commit some kind of act. They have executed search warrants at his home in Bellingham, Washington. They have interviewed people there. They have also executed warrants at a at a place in San Diego. So we are still told that the suspect has not been cooperating with authorities. It's a little unclear what his condition is in a local hospital.

'President Donald Trump is vowing to intensify his immigration crackdown after the shooting. He said he'll permanently pause migration to the U.S. from quote, "all third world countries." But it's not clear which countries he's referring to. CNN has asked officials for clarity. Trump also says the U.S. Will re-examine all green cards issued to people from 19 countries.

'By tomorrow morning, look at all of this heavy snow that is expected across states like Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska. On the southern edge, we have mostly rain here. It's just a little bit warmer, but also the potential for some strong to severe thunderstorms. By Saturday night, now the main focus for all that heavy snow is places like Chicago, Detroit, even into Cleveland. And then by Sunday morning, now we see the bulk of that winter weather begin to push into areas of the Northeast as well as the mid-Atlantic.

'We have new information on the U.S. military's first in what would become a series of strikes on people in alleged drug boats. The sources familiar with the matter tell CNN that back in September, the military carried out a follow-up strike on one boat in the Caribbean after the first strike didn't kill everyone on board. Sources say the second attack killed the rest of the crew, bringing the death toll to 11 and sinking the ship. It's not clear if Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth knew there were survivors before the second strike and why they weren't picked up, according to one source. The administration has never publicly acknowledged killing survivors. Legal experts widely consider the killings illegal under international law.

A key political operator and close aide of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has resigned. The move comes amid an alleged extensive energy kickback scandal that has already taken down two other members of Zelensky's cabinet. It also complicates Kiev's position in peace negotiations with the U.S. CNN's Nick Paton Walsh has more.

Zelensky has framed this resignation as frankly a bid to remove doubt in Ukraine to try and draw a line ultimately under this distraction. It simply adds to the false Russian talking point about the Ukrainian government's legitimacy, and I'm sure it's something that President Trump will be paying attention to as well.

Measles vaccination is no longer a global success story. That's according to a new report from the WHO, which shows the disease is surging worldwide. Nearly 60 countries reported large or disruptive measles outbreaks last year, and a quarter of those are in countries previously declared measles free, including Canada and the US. CNN's Meg Tirrell has more.

Of my measles deaths worldwide have fallen 88% over the last two and a half decades to an estimated 95,000 in 2024. But the WHO points out that every death from a disease that, like measles, is preventable with a highly effective and low cost vaccine is unacceptable, and cases worldwide have been rising over the last five years as vaccination rates have declined, including in middle and higher income countries. The US is now reporting the most measles cases of any year since before the disease was declared eliminated here in the year 2000.
