The fragile truce between the U.S. and Iran hangs in the balance as negotiators head to Pakistan for talks this weekend. In an interview with the New York Post, President Donald Trump warned that if a peace deal is not reached, the US will resume strikes against Iran. Iran's parliament speaker says ceasefire talks can't start until two conditions a ceasefire in Lebanon and the release of blocked Iranian assets. In route to Pakistan, Vice President J.D. Vance said he expects negotiations to be positive, but warned Iran against trying to play the U.S.

In Beirut, demonstrators, including Hezbollah supporters, took to the streets to protest against expected negotiations between Israel and the Lebanese government. Ambassadors from Israel, Lebanon, and the U.S. will hold a first round of preparatory talks in Washington, D.C. today to set the table for future negotiations between Israel, and Lebanon. That's according to an Israeli official and a source familiar with the talks.

That's her speaking to Reverend Al Sharpton at the 2026 National Action Network Convention. Harris' comments come as there's been a lot of speculation about her political future after she released a campaign memoir in late 2025 and went on a book tour. Since leaving the White House, Harris has continued to be an outspoken critic of President Trump.

'President Trump posted a graphic video of a deadly hammer attack in Florida that happened last week, thrusting the latest immigration case into the national spotlight. The gruesome surveillance video shows 40-year-old Rolbert Joachin, a Haitian migrant outside a gas station, repeatedly hitting a car with what appears to be a hammer, when a woman approaches and appears to speak to him. Then the man turns and walks toward her, striking her with the hammer. Here's CNN's Isabel Rosales.

We know from arrest reports that police found her there on the ground, unresponsive and not breathing. Now, in an email back and forth between me and the Fort Myers Police Department, they told me that the attack was targeted, that while the victim and the suspect did not know each other, now President Trump posted on Truth Social saying that the video was, quote, "the most vicious thing that you will ever see," referring to the suspect as, quote "an animal." He accused the Biden administration of allowing the suspect to stay in the U.S. after Haitians were granted temporary protective status, which we know the Trump administration has been trying to terminate.

Police are withholding the victim's name. Joachin has been arrested and charged with murder and several other charges, according to court documents. He's being held without bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 4th. CNN has reached out to Joachin's lawyers.

Now to some storm alerts across the country as we're heading into the weekend. Over a month's worth of rain has fallen in parts of Hawaii, as a fierce storm is lashing the island still recovering from devastating floods last month. As for the central U.S., a weather pattern change this weekend will end a quiet spring week and kick off a dangerous stretch of severe storms, including possible tornadoes. CNN's Taylor Ward has more.

'That's right, Ifeoma. Multiple rounds of severe storms will be possible over the central U.S., lasting into the middle of next week. It all gets started Saturday in places like West Texas and western Oklahoma. Sunday's storms will shift slightly to the east, bringing larger cities like Dallas and Oklahoma City into play. The weekend storms will primarily bring strong winds and large hail, but isolated tornadoes are also possible. And the threat expands for the early to middle part of next-week. Areas from the southern plains through the Midwest will continue to see the threat of large hail, strong winds. And perhaps an uptick in tornadoes. This will include places like Dallas, Kansas City, Chicago, and St. Louis. The timing and locations may shift, but as we head into the peak tornado months, it's always a good idea to have alerts turned on and checked back daily for updates.

'The Federal Aviation Administration and the Department of Transportation are targeting a new generation of air traffic controllers, video gamers. Next Friday, the FAA will start accepting applications to alleviate the ongoing shortage of controllers. Gamers are encouraged to quote, "level up your career" on the hiring website. The department is implementing a long-term plan to get rid of old technology from the air traffic control system. The website promises quote, "high score rewards," including pay training, government benefits, and average yearly earnings of more than $155,000 after three years of service.
