Millions of Americans in the South were under heat advisories over the past week, including those in San Antonio, Texas, where the temperature reached 101 degrees on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The hot weather is having a significant impact on Bexar County, in which San Antonio is located. While half the county is experiencing an "exceptional drought," the other half is in "extreme drought," US Drought Monitor says.

To help residents escape the heat, San Antonio has established cooling centers at locations throughout the city, including libraries and community centers. The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has also launched a "Beat the Heat" campaign to educate people on the dangers of hot weather and what precautions to take.

Meanwhile, local provider CPS Energy is encouraging locals to conserve energy whenever possible, as too much demand could result in a loss of power for communities.
