Photographers for the jazz publication Metronome followed Holiday seemingly everywhere, even to her hospital bed, where this photo was snapped while she was recovering from an undisclosed illness.<em> </em>Limited Runs has teamed up with Getty Images to curate Metronome's photographs of some of the greatest figures in jazz history. The collection is <a href="index.php?page=&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.limitedruns.com%2Fblog%2Fphotography%2Funcovered-metronome-jazz-photo-collection%2F" target="_blank" target="_blank">now touring</a> select U.S. cities.

He recorded the tracks with an all-star group of musicians, including pianist Bill Evans, saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassist Paul Chambers.

John Coltrane is sometimes called "Trane," a fitting nickname for the saxophonist who took listeners along on sublime trips into the world of improvisational jazz. His music is so revered that a San Francisco church was named in his honor and anointed him a saint.
