'That's Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy during a briefing today about the fatal collision between an Air Canada plane and a Port Authority firetruck at LaGuardia Airport Sunday night. A law enforcement official says the pilot and co-pilot were killed and dozens were injured. A preliminary analysis indicates that the jet collided with the fire truck on the runway at 104 miles per hour. Air traffic control had cleared both to be on the runways. One airport runway reopened earlier today. But the Federal Aviation Administration says a second runway will stay closed until 7 a.m. Friday. A CNN aviation analyst says it'll take at least another week or more for investigators to soar through the wreckage.

'More news coming up, including the latest on ICE agents at some airports. President Donald Trump was presented a potential off-ramp to the Department of Homeland Security shutdown: fund every part of the department except ICE operations. That's according to two sources familiar with the conversation. Trump rejected the idea and attacked Democrats on Truth Social for not backing the Save America Act, a federal elections overhaul bill which adds strict new ID and proof of citizenship requirements for voting. He reiterated his demand to tie DHS funding to the bill today and urged lawmakers to skip the Easter recess to pass it.
President Donald Trump

You don't have to take a fast vote. Don't worry about Easter going home. In fact, make this one for Jesus, okay?

Meanwhile, White House border czar Tom Homan says that ICE agents have been deployed to 14 U.S. airports to help TSA agents and that Americans should prepare to see more. Trump is urging ICE agents not to wear masks because he says it's not a, quote, "appropriate look" for the setting.

'U.S. stocks rose and oil prices fell after President Trump said the U.S. would postpone strikes on Iran's power and energy sites for five days. The Dow closed higher by 631 points, but was up more than a thousand points earlier in the day. Before Trump's announcement, he warned that the U.S. would hit Iran's power plants if the critical Strait of Hormuz was not fully reopened by 7:44 p.m this evening. The president said the U S spoke to a quote, "top person" in Iran's regime to try to end the war, but says it wasn't the country's new supreme leader. Trump told CNN the US and Iran had reached 15 points of agreement, including that Tehran committed to not have a nuclear weapon, something it has also said publicly in the past. But according to state media, Iran denied any dialogue took place with the U.S. In a televised speech today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he sees chances for a deal to, quote, "safeguard our vital interests." He says Israel will continue its attacks on Iran and Lebanon. Earlier today, the Israeli military says it struck one of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' main headquarters today. Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, cited Iranian sources saying plans are being made for potential actions targeting Tel Aviv and some regional U.S. and Israeli allies.

'In the south of Columbia, a domestic military transport plane crashed during takeoff, killing at least one person and injuring 77. That's according to President Gustavo Petro, who said the status of more than 40 people remains unknown. The defense minister says the cause of the crash hasn't been determined, adding that there's no indication of an attack by criminal groups. He said the C-130 Hercules aircraft was in airworthy condition, and the crew was, quote, "duly qualified." Officials said the plane was carrying 114 passengers and 11 crew members. More than 100 of those on board were military personnel.

'Coming up, takeaways from a Supreme Court challenge over mail-in ballots.

00:03:55
'Today, the Supreme Court's conservative majority seemed skeptical of Mississippi's and other state laws that allow grace periods for mail-in ballots after election day, seeing the policies as problematic. Some justices suggested the Mississippi law could make it easier for fraudulent votes to be cast or for voters to assume fraud occurred. The court's liberal wing attempted to frame the case as one that should be left for states to decide. The decision is expected by July.
