Hey, from CNN, I'm Ifeoma Dike, with the five things you need to know for Friday, January 9th.

'We start with new footage from the fatal confrontation in Minneapolis on Wednesday, where an ICE agent shot and killed a woman. The video obtained by CNN gives a raw, up-close perspective of the pivotal moments surrounding the shooting of Renee Good. A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed the video was recorded on Agent Jonathan Ross's cell phone camera. The shooting itself isn't visible in the video, but three gunshots are heard as the phone in the agent's hand jostles. The video also doesn't show if the SUV made contact with Ross. The DHS says the video backs up what the agency has said, that the ICE agent acted in self-defense. Vice President JD Vance also reposted the video online, saying it shows the officer was endangered. That's an ICE protest in Atlanta. It's one of many across the country where thousands are rallying in the wake of the Minneapolis shooting, and another from Thursday involving federal agents in Portland that left two people wounded.

Coming up, a flu update and how long experts say the surge could last.
President Donald Trump

We're getting along extremely well with the people of Venezuela, both the people and the people that are running Venezuela.

That's President Donald Trump during a meeting with more than a dozen energy executives at the White House earlier today. He said he would personally decide which oil companies are allowed to enter Venezuela under his administration's plans to rebuild the nation's infrastructure.

It's a whole different Venezuela. And Venezuela is going to be very successful. And the people of the United States are going to big beneficiaries.

'Trump added that the oil companies would be dealing directly with the U.S. In negotiations for access to Venezuelan oil, rather than the country's leadership. Industry sources are skeptical over Trump's claim that the oil companies will spend at least $100 billion, and oil executives largely declined to commit to such a deal after the meeting today. This comes days after a U. S. Military operation captured Venezuelian leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife, and Trump declared the U S. Would run the nation indefinitely. Meanwhile, a U.S. State Department team traveled to Venezuela today for the first time since Maduro's ouster, according to a U-S official.

After a record week of flu activity in the US, the CDC says flu season probably hasn't peaked yet. CNN's Meg Tirrell has more.

Hi, Ifeoma. Hospitalizations are still rising from the flu, even as the latest CDC data show flu activity generally may be decreasing, although the agency warns that could just be a holiday delay in data reporting. It estimates there have been at least 15 million illnesses, 180,000 hospitalizations, and 7,400 deaths so far this season. The CDC expects elevated flu activity to continue for several more weeks and says it's not too late to get vaccinated. Though a new strain has been contributing to higher flu activity, studies show the vaccine still provides protection, especially against more severe disease.

Meanwhile, South Carolina measles cases have jumped 68% in one week amid the holiday season and lagging vaccination. That's as the U.S. Is building a case to retain its measles elimination status. U. S. Officials say outbreaks in South Carolina and other states aren't related to the large outbreak in Texas last year. Health officials say those cases were brought into the country from infected travelers.

Swiss prosecutors say they've ordered to detain one of the two owners of a ski resort bar where a fire killed 40 people on New Year's Day due to flight risk. More than half of those who died were teenagers and another 116 people were injured. Prosecutors are investigating the French owners on suspicion of crimes, including homicide by negligence. The victims' families have filed legal complaints over the blaze. The owners have expressed their grief over the fire and said they would cooperate fully with the investigation.

Coming up, a key change to Elon Musk's AI model after controversy.

00:04:16
A new restriction on Elon Musk's Grok Chatbot is changing how users interact with it. Grok's X account announced that the Chatbot's image generation features and editing have been limited to paid X subscribers. The change appears to have happened between yesterday and today, and it comes after backlash that the AI tool has been digitally undressing people, including children, at a user's request, a trend that exploded on X.
