Spain’s Rafael Cabrera-Bello has a one-shot lead going into the final round of the Portugal Masters after carding an eight-under 64 at Vilamoura Saturday.
The 27-year-old, chasing his second European Tour title after a win at the Austria Open in 2009, went into the clubhouse on 18-under 198 with Christian Nilsson of Sweden and Chile’s Felipe Aguilar his nearest challengers.
“It felt really good, I’ve been playing good the last few days,” he told the official European Tour website.
“My goal today was to try and do the same thing. The two eagles definitely gave me a big boost and I think I played pretty solid.”
Sweden’s Peter Hanson and fellow Scandinavian star Thomas Bjorn of Denmark also stayed in the hunt after respective rounds of 64 and 66 for 16-under 200.
Hanson is bidding to move into the top 15 in the Race to Dubai and top 50 in the world, with a current ranking of 51.
“I’ve been struggling a bit with every part of my game this season, it has not been consistent but I’ve been working hard on that the least few weeks,” he said.
Bjorn can make it four wins this season if he triumphs Sunday.
South African Hennie Otto was among those on 14-under after producing a brilliant best-of-the day 63. Overnight leader Simon Khan was also on that mark after slipping back with a 71.
Star names Martin Kaymer and Padraig Harrington were seven shots behind with defending champion Richard Green of Australia a further stroke behind.
