Yosemite closed

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, California (CNN) -- Due to lack of an approved federal budget, Yosemite National Park was directed to close down all operations starting Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. (PST).

The park will be closed to day visitors. Only those with reservations for overnight lodging or camping in the park will be allowed entry through Tuesday night, and all concessions will close at noon Wednesday (PST), according to a recorded park message.

Only park residents, their guests, and those with contractual obligations will be allowed access. The few allowed in, including guests of privately-owned facilities, will be restricted to accommodations in Yosemite West and the town of Wawona at the southern tip of the park.

Yosemite, like Joshua Tree National Monument, does not plan to re-open until Congress and the president approve funding for the National Park Service.
