Corey Feldman, left, and Corey Haim in 2007.

[Updated 2:18 p.m.] Corey Feldman’s publicist Stacy Hess issued a statement from Feldman on the death of his friend Corey Haim:

"I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school.

"This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived."

[Updated 1:27 p.m.] Mark Heaslip, Corey Haim's agent, talked to HLN's Christi Paul about the child star's death, including that he was sick with flu-like symptoms Tuesday night.

[Updated 9:43 a.m.] We now have a full story on Haim's death, including background on his previous battles with drugs.

[Updated 8:51 a.m.] Haim, 38, was taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. PT (5:15 a.m. ET), Los Angeles County Coroner's spokeswoman Lt. Cheryl MacWillie told CNN. The  hospital is a mile from Haim's apartment. Police Sgt. Frank Albarran told CNN the death appears to be accidental, possibly an overdose.

Haim's most famous role was in the 1987 movie "The Lost Boys," in which he appeared with his frequent co-star, Corey Feldman.

[Posted 8:40 a.m.] Actor Corey Haim, who appeared in a number of movies during the 1980s, died early Wednesday of a possible drug  overdose, Los Angeles police said.

why does this not suprise me? a washed up has been actor with no real idea how to live in the real world who uses drugs to try to cope and over does that too. you cant blame hollywood. these kids are told they are great and people fawn all over them when they are on top and drop them when they are no longer "in". here's a thought- stop feeding their ego and teach them how to live when the "ride" ends. then we will not have headlines like this.

So sad but saw it coming and so did everyone else I believe. I have a couple of friends in the same position that he was in before he died and I don't know how to approach them about the situation. I know that if they don,t get help sooner than later then it could and will probably be them as well and I will blame myself for not trying to intervene when I knew I should. My family keeps telling me that they got themselves into their own situation and it is not my responsibility to try to help them get and stay clean, but I disagree. I think more people could be saved if someone would intervene sooner instead of not wanting to get involved in their problems. If somebody out their has gone through this situation or has an answer for me please!!! write me back anytime. Thanks.

      Hi, John,
I wanted to tell you that it's entirely true what your family has told you. You can't help somebody that doesn't recognize they have a problem. Corey Haim had a lot of opportunity to get proper help. I think he was just doing so many drugs so for long that his heart couldn't take it. But, you're also right to try without ceaseing to be there for someone suffering from an addiction without enabling them further.

Dying from an overdose IS NOT an accident...it is irresponsible behavior and people who do this know that death is possible. It's sad nonetheless, but there was nothing accidental about it – it was stupid and he paid for it with his life.

Sorry to hear that...I liked his stuff. So if you overdose on drugs, how do they determine that it was accidental, and not suicide? Sorry if that question seems morbid, but my father in-law loaded up on booze and pills...then he hung himself in 2006.....what would that be called....an accidental stunt.?

      Hi, Wayne,
My initial reaction was also that Corey Haim had committed suicide by mixing all of his prescription drugs that were meant to help him wean off of his addiction to pain killers. I'm so sorry about your father-in-law...I think you'r correct in thinking that depresson plays a big role (pardon he pun) in addiction and addictive personality types like Corey Haim admittedly was.

Hollywood gives them the impression that they are elite, entitled. There lies the problem. They are offered and given more than they can handle, then it starts. Some one needs to step up and let them know the are not. they have a talent to use not to abuse!

Corey Haim was a mess. He was never going to get his act together and didn't want to. I feel sorry for his family, but at some point family has to say enough. Ever watched Intervention? They're enablers. Just like that girl who died in centreville, Virginia. Her parents knew she was doing heroin in her room. All her needles and stuff were all over her room. But the chose to blame someone else for her death when they, themselves, killed her by ignoring her heroin habit because rich kids don't do heroin. Corey Haim's family should have stepped up.

This will never end until law enforcement agencies and the American Medical Association crack down on all the prescription drugs that are being far too freely dispensed in Hollywood. There seems to be no control whatever of these substances. Let's decriminalize marijuana and focus instead on these pharmaceuticals.

WE are responsible and so is the media, and Hollywood, for pushing children to be 'actors' i.e. not themselves, when all they should be doing is being kids and developing their own identities rather than constanting being "on". How many can we count before we start connecting the dots and seeing our own selfish greed for entertainment as the root cause of all this?

All in all this is a shame. Corey had dealt with this disease for much of his life. In the reality show you could tell he was screaming for help by his emotional roller coaster. I think he had depression issues as well. No matter whether it was an accident or not, people need look at the good things he did. RIP Corey, you will be missed.

He had the disease of addiction.. It is your choice to pick it up the first time, but then it is no longer a choice... There are thousands of people who suffer from this disease, some people find the help they need and spend their lives in recovery, others are not so lucky! So sad, he just couldn't kick his demon ... loved him in Lost Boys ... watched a couple of biographies/documentaries on him and how far down he had gone, and how he had 'pulled himself back up' but could still see that demon there, hoped he would be stronger than the demon ... what a shame and a waste. SO GLAD Robert Downey Jr. (my fave actor) was able to pull himself out of that hole and making magic again!

I am stunned, and shocked as well as dissapointed that there has been such little report of this in the news. I too had hoped he would be a success again like Robert Downey, Jr. The media should have this out there more, just like all the other celeb deaths lately they have covered, and show Haim as the example of bad choices. I agree with mikiejo's posting it's time to keep pushing the message and slow down in life.

PS – Whomever he kept hidding as his rapist when he was 15 should be brought to justice, Corey Feldman knows who it is! I wonder how many other victims are out there? Now that's a story for the media to report.

I'm so sorry about your brother.I think losing Corey haim brings back other loses inour lives. You're right that addiction is just like any ther disease, like depression, that i believe corey HAIM SUFFERED FROM AND was not treated properly for, consequently turned to drugs for comfort. It's funny how after two months the spin is he wasn't doing street drugs but that the medications he was on to help lessen his addiction had an adverse effect. Hello! That's still drugs and clearly his heart couldn't take it. no matter how you look at it, he was clearly very distraught over not being asked to do The lost Boys 2..

I think something that's being overlooked here is the underlying reason(s) why Corey took drugs in the first place. Keep in mind that we have no idea what sort of torment, pain, anger or depression there was within him.......not to mention a myriad of other "personal demons" that he perhaps felt as though he couldn't share with anyone else. Was his overdose an act of desperation, where he was crying out to the world to help him – or was it an act of suicide, where he felt that he had dealt with the pain far too long? That's something that only Corey knew for certain. Whatever the case, we must try to not judge him for the bad decisions he made during his life, and remember him instead for being the good actor that he was. Rest in peace, Corey.......

This is so sad to see. Another in an endless list of Hollywood child actors who develop mental and emotional problems then turn to drugs or alcohol. Britney Spears, River Phoenix, Judy Garland, Danny Bonaduce, McAuley Caulkin....the list is almost endless. When will Hollywod and the media step up and take some responsibility. Clearly a young mind is not able to handle the stresses of fame. Knowing this, why isn't Hollywood required by law to drug test anyone on set under the age of 18 and the ban them from the set until they test clean? Why isn't Hollywood required to provide 1 year of psychological counselling in every contract signed with a child actor? While I respect privacy and freedoms for an adult, a child needs protection and support. This is yet another failure on the part of Hollywood and our government. Furthermore, there should be a ban on the media hounding children under 18. It should be illegal for the media to publish any paparazzi-style, un-authorized photos of anyone under 18. This is a terrible tragedy. Meanwhile the Hollywood execs will look for all the photo-ops to appear compassionate, then they go home to the mansions paid for by these dead child-actors. It's sickening.

I have to say I was upset by his behavior on the Corey and Corey show, but I was still rooting for him and secretly wished I was one of those girls he was dating that could have been a positive influence on him! He was sooo handsome and underneath it all had a sweet, caring, and free spirited"little" boy's soul that may now find rest. It was like he never grew up and became scarred by Hollywood and tried to find an escape. Drugs are never the answer. The hole in our souls will only be filled with the love from our Creator! For those of you who want to throw their 2 cents in: "Death Due to Hollywood" and "Inevitable" and "Not surprised"...shame on you. Do you really feel so superior to a celebrity if they die, accidentally, on purpose or otherwise? How callous. For all we know, he dies of acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose, lots of people do because it's hidden in all kinds of OTC meds. Maybe, like Brittany Murphy, he just had a defect that didn't allow him to survive a bad allergic reaction or maybe it's just his time. But for his friends and family who need comfort, your snarkey comments are just rude. Pray no one snarks at your funeral. Maybe they"ll say "Gee, he/she probably deserved it, after all that snarking they did, it is no wonder..."

What a pity for this man's family. Hollywood has created a perfect storm for this kind of thing. Even adult celebrities have a hard time dealing with the deadly combination of too much money, an overwhelming sense of self-entitlement and people around them who refuse to say "Hey, you're stepping over the line". Make a child contend with that and you have a recipe for almost sure disaster.

The price of fame is too steep.

While it's always unfortunate to see someone throw their life away, I don't understand the pity for this young man. This is a kid who had the world at his feet but couldn't show the will power to live a better life afforded to him by his fans. There are people all over the world that are living a true nightmare (i.e. earthquake victims in Haiti and Chile, homeless, unemployed, war torn countries, etc...) but this guy couldn't handle the "pressures" of being a celebrity and turned to substance abuse? It really makes me sick that our population is so diluted that they feel sorry for these celebrities. Their demise is sad but preventable and completely in their own hands. Hate to sound heartless but I feel sorry for the family of four that is being evicted and can't afford to put food on the table due to the economic downturn or the thousands of people impacted in the previously mentioned areas. Not an celeb that made poor choices... Oh well, back to work at my modest wage job and do my best supporting my family.. cheers!

Being a child performer messes with kids so much, I wonder why there aren't some rules around it, like requiring schedules that don't burn kids out, time off, counseling, etc. Maybe there are and I just don't know it, but clearly something is wrong because these kids just keep getting into trouble either early or later in life. Just goes to show you that there's nothing wrong, and very much right about letting a kid be a normal kid when they're young. Makes me wonder which of the current crop of kid stars will be the next tabloid or Hollywood trash rag story. Very sad.

Those that are being critical of Mr. Haim don't realize that addiction is a mental illness and extremely difficult to get out of. The statitics are that only 30% of drug addicts actually are able to get clean and stay clean...only 30%....so stop blaming the addict. I doubt that any drug addict enjoys being a drug addict, and most are so unhappy that they are addicts, but getting out is nowhere near easy. That's why only 30% make it....he was very unfortunate to have become a drug addict and end up this way. Addicts are very sad and lost individuals who cannot find a way out. I feel terrible for his family. However, he is in a better place now, his pains are now gone and he is free of his addiction.

Why are people mentioning The Goonies? He wasn't in The Goonies, that was Sean Astin with Corey Feldman. Corey Haim was in Roomies. Aside from that, let's try to show a little compassion people, the man had a serious addiction. He blew his part in Lost Boys 2, something that meant the world to him, because he couldn't get through scenes. He got left being a voice because of his addiction. He couldn't just say I think I'll stop doing drugs because it's destructive. And unfortunately he didn't get help, or at least the right help, in time to save his life. As Dr. Drew (who was mentioned in an earlier post as someone Corey needed) has said, you can't MAKE the addict get help, in the end it's up to them. RIP Corey, the monkey is finally off of your back.

Corey was a talented actor from such a young age – who unfortunately had to grow up too soon and was faced with adult challenges like drugs, sex, etc. I remember in the reality show that he disclosed he was molested for some time by a male who was either a manager or a movie-person that was around for some time. These deamons he carried with him were certainly the death of him.

I will never forget how he was a part of my life growing up – in the movies I watched, the tiger beat magazines I coveted, and my farfetched child hood dream of marrying him one day.May he rest in peace and no longer be in pain. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

while I am not of his genreation (older) and I really don't recall any of his movies or TV that he appeared in, I do send my condolences to his friends. The friends that tried to help him, tried to be there for him in his need. You did not fail him – he failed himself; his family failed him. Yes it is true we do not know the "exact" drug that took his life, but reading previous posts about is reality show, it seems clear that his drug of choice was most likely illegal. Why now is it everyone wants to jump on his bandwagon of fame – where we you when he needed you most? I have a hard time feeling sorry for the drug addicts when there are so many others out here fighting everyday problems such as no work, sickness, homelessness and so many other terrible things that would drive us down that road to addiction but WE ARE STRONGER THAN THAT!

You people making excuses for him are an embarrassment to the human species. "Oh oh addiction took hold of him" you make excuses blaming everything BUT the one person who had control of his life: HIM.

Addiction is easy to break, you just have to want to break it. That's why I detest all these "Lisa quit smoking in 16 weeks with Chantix and support" bullstuff, that's nothing but a company capitalizing off someone else's misery.

You want to quit smoking? Just quit. You have to decide you want to quit, though. You can't say "oh I want to quit, I'll get some patches and those will feed my addiction" blah blah blah that's not quitting or even wanting to quit. It's making an excuse.

There's always consequences to bad behavior, You can't go on through life blaming others for your actions. He knew the dangers of drugs so shame on him for throwing his life away.

It is a tragic loss. Cory Haim and Cory Feldman were my favorite actors growing up. I have missed both since there roles in Blockbuster movies seemed to drop off. I was even more upset when I learned of Cory Haims drug addiction. I guess I always assumed from their roles on the big screen it would have been the other way around. Feldman always seemed more the rebel. LOL (Sorry C.F.)
Please remember something though. I've heard many people blame Hollywood, the lifestyle and so on, but it is important to remember people make their own choices no matter how much we wish to vilify someone. Everyone has excuses, but there are no reasons. The same that is true for our Celebrity heroes is the same for the high school junior that is trying their weed for the first time as I type this. Learn from Cory's mistake... Walk away from it now!
Cory Haim, I will miss your acting and sorry the great return I always hoed for will never happen... Cory Feldman, I'm sorry for the loss of your brother, I know how that feels, and to the family of Haim, I am sorry for your loss and hope in time you can find acceptance, and peace despite your tragedy.

RIP Corey. He was a GREAT actor. I loved him in Lost Boys and was very upset when I found out he wasn't going to be in the sequel, but I am very upset now. Not a good couple of years for celebrities, but out of all the ones that died I think he and MJ are the only ones I ever really liked. RIP Corey Haim.

anticipated by my sisters and girl cousins. Too bad he couldn't tap into all the love that people had for him and heal himself. I pray that his death will finally wake up Hollywood to the dangers of thier lifestyle to children. RIP Corey :(

Unfortunately, Hollywood is very attractive to people who have these issues to begin with. I think Hollywood exacerbates the problem since famous people get whatever they want. It's very sad. Even when these people want help, the people around them are too busy saying yes to them, that there's really no one looking out for them.

I'd like to make a point about Corey Haim that I haven't heard anyone else make. He disclosed that he had been sexually absued as a child, yet he never abused anyone himself. That is further proof that abusers make excuses. Corey, I think, took drugs to mask the pain that he couldn't run from and didn't have the ability to confront. He was self-destructive, and I think because that's the only way he knew how to cope. It is so sad and tragic. May he now rest in peace!

My condolences to Corey's family and friends on his death. I grew up with him..he's actually only two years older than I am. And I had tons of posters of him on my wall back when I was a teen. I kept thinking about him over the years, and was hoping to see a comeback of him in films. I always thought he was funny and cute, and I just loved the way he smiled and laughed. I wish I had a chance to meet him maybe just to get an autograph. May God Bless Corey's soul on his passage way to heaven!!!

To Corey Feldman: You are an amazing friend to Corey Haim, not many people can say they have a friend like you and I know it helped him having someone like you in his life. You always seem to be there for him....Good luck to you in the future...

I blame Hollywood! All they do is use people who can make them rich, and if you are a child star and become an adult, they abandon you if they can't make money off of you any more. Instead of appreciating his talent they tossed him away. I think he wouldn't even had those drug problems if Hollywood appreciated him like they should have and gave him more work. Hollywood Sucks!!!! Corey was a beautiful person. God Bless Corey In Heaven! He's in a better place than this money hungry world!

WAKE UP HOLLYWOOD! Don't be the next actress/actor to loose your life over non-sense and unfortunate choices. Live your life to the fullest.

Chosing that kind of path will ruin a life!!! It is impossible to get back to normal unless SERIOUS professional help is involved when dealing with drugs.

Its a real shame that this young man who many people thought was on some kind of drug that you buy from the street but it was an over the counter drug that he had a bad reaction to and it caused his heart to stop working and that is what caused him to die not form some kind of overdose that everybody is posting on the web site and making it look like he was still hooked on drugs when he was actually clean and starting to get his career started back up again

He was just like any of us. The only difference was that he was a child star that could not handle all of the fame and money. He then could not find work and that just made things worse. People that are depressed do this, it is a fact. Males in general. I am very sad that he could not seem to get his life on track, but if he did not want help then you can not help. They have to want the help in order to be helped. He was a great actor and a wonderful person, I just hope that everyone remembers him for who he was and what wonderful work he did instead of remembering him for this. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his friends during this difficult time. Corey, I hope that you are finally at peace now, I hope that all of your pain is gone and I hope that you are finally happy and smiling that awesome smile of yours. May god be with you and you family and your friends. It is sad that Hollywood helps people to become addicts but can not or will not help them to over come what they have helped them become. If Hollywood would get their head our of their butt for a few minutes to look at how they treat people and what they make stars become then this would not be a problem. No holloywood did not force Corey to take the drugs but they sure as heck did not offer any help to him to help him get off of the drugs either. You could not pay me enough money to work in hollywood. COREY YOU WILL BE MISSED AND YOU ARE LOVED AND WERE LOVED MORE THAN YOU KNOW. GOD BLESS THE HAIM FAMILY !!!!!!!!!! YOU RAISED A WONDERFUL SON WHO BECAME A WONDERFUL ACTOR.

I'm I hearing that Cory Feldman is not going to the funeral, AND that the family is trying to raise money for the funeral AND a company that DID pay for the funeral services will use memorabilia as repayment?..........NOT trying to blame ANYONE, but seems to me that Feldman SHOULD'VE been there more, since he was his "brother"......at LEAST pick up the funeral expenses.
